Dr Nazarian, a Scientia Senior Lecturer in the School of Built Environment, Chief Investigator at the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, and lead for the Climate-Resilient Cities lab, has been recognised for her pioneering research and outreach in urban climatology. Her work has made significant contributions to understanding climate extremes and their impact on urban environments.
“Being named a Young Tall Poppy is a tremendous honour and a testament to the importance of science communication and outreach. This recognition motivates me to continue bridging the gap between scientific research and public understanding, ensuring that my work has a positive and lasting impact on society,” she said.
Beyond her research, Dr Nazarian is deeply committed to enhancing scientific literacy and engaging communities in meaningful dialogue about climate resilience.
Dr Jones, a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the School of Population Health and Program Lead for Food Governance at The George Institute for Global Health, has been recognised for her significant contributions to food policy research and advocacy. She leads a program of research that merges science and law, working closely with policymakers to improve food regulation. Collaborating with UN agencies and governments, Dr Jones is dedicated to holding the food industry accountable for its health and environmental impacts.
Dr Jones commented: “It’s an honour to receive this award which recognises the value of public engagement as a scientist – working with policymakers and the media to make sure my research improves people’s lives is my favourite part of the job.”
