Vanessa Wong

A/Prof Vanessa Wong is a soil scientist in the School of Earth, Atmosphere and Environment at Monash University.

Soils are the drivetrain of terrestrial ecosystems supporting critical habitats, food production and the towns and cities in which we all live. Vanessa’s research focuses on this dynamic soil environment, seeking to understand how changes such as environmental change, land use and land management affects biogeochemical cycling belowground. She works in both natural environments and agricultural environments.

Vanessa is passionate about improving equity and inclusion in STEM for under-represented groups and increasing visibility of STEM leaders from these groups. She is the former Chair of the Australian Academy of Science, Early Mid-Career Researcher Forum and the current President of Soil Science Australia.
