Homeward Bound extends our congratulations to Dr Paola Magni, an alumna of Homeward Bound (HB6), a distinguished forensic scientist and an innovative thinker, for her recognition as a finalist in the 2024 Australian of the Year awards for Western Australia.
Dr Magni is an enthusiastic advocate for science communication and is dedicated to amplifying discussions surrounding the ground-breaking contributions that women in STEMM can make. She encourages a new generation of female scientists to be bold, innovative and to carve out new frontiers on their own terms.
The announcement of the awards’ finalists took place earlier this month [Nov]. While Paola did not secure the award, we take immense pride in her nomination and celebrate her as a valuable member of our community of women leaders.

In addition to this prestigious recognition, Dr Magni’s expertise in forensic entomology and underwater forensics, highly esteemed on a global scale, has been acknowledged. Her efforts in fostering collaboration between Italian and Australian scientists and institutions have led to her appointment as a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy.
Dr Magni is also the Ambassador of The Red Shoes Australia Project which takes inspiration from the global movement “Los Zapatos Rojos” initiated by Mexican artist Elina Chauvet.
Homeward Bound continues to applaud Dr Paola Magni for her remarkable achievements and the impact she has made in her field, as well as for her dedication to advancing the role of women in STEMM.
