Alexandra is a PhD candidate at the University of Technology Sydney working in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Marine Science investigating factors that affect coral reef health at key life stages. Demonstrating a diverse background involving aquaculture, coral and animal husbandry, coral reef restoration, marine educational tourism, remote SCUBA and vessel handling, science communication and research, she is passionate and dedicated to conserving marine environments through inclusive collaboration and widely accessible communication of actionable science.
Having direct experience with primary industries – through her familial ties to fisheries and agriculture – as well as to all communities directly reliant on or adjacent to ocean regions, Alexandra is adept at navigating the discussion of climate or ecosystem policies into simple, respectful language that pays witness to those groups who are often left feeling overlooked in debates regarding their livelihoods.
She is an advocate for supportive and equitable spaces for women and minorities, global collaboration to ensure full and equal access and visibility for these groups and the work they’re putting out into the scientific sphere, and for encouraging a deep passion and respect for the natural world.
As a keen diver (both SCUBA and freediving) and general nature-adorer, Alexandra spends her professional and free time around the ocean and within green spaces: reading, drawing, swimming, hiking, and appreciating the world.
