Amber Craig’s purpose is to provide positive outcomes for people and the planet; Amber is currently working in to minimise the impacts to water availability caused by climate change. Amber was awarded the Australian Water Association’s 2023 Queensland Young Water Professional of the Year in recognition of her work in the water industry, both technically as well as her efforts to create greater equality for all. Amber is co-lead and co-founder of an employee network striving for greater gender and diversity in leadership, and Amber continues her efforts for First Nations reconciliation in her role as Reconciliation Action Plan Relationships Theme Lead.
Amber completed a Masters of Earth Science (Geology) at the University of Melbourne in 2017. Whilst Amber had a big dream of ‘solving climate change’ by studying to be a becoming a climate scientist, Amber focused her formal studies on Earth Sciences, finding hydrogeology in the process, and became a coordinator for a student-lead campaign petitioning the university to divest from fossil fuels.
Devastated by the water crisis unfolding within Australia and globally in 2019, Amber joined the water industry and the Murray-Darling Basin Authority soon after in 2020 as a graduate. Amber is currently an acting Assistant Director focused on critical human water needs and drought resilience of the River Murray system. Amber has spent the past 18 months working at the policy to science interface to bring the latest climate science to Australia’s largest water reform with a focus on communication and collaboration.
Currently located in Brisbane, Australia, Amber enjoys new experiences, travelling including visiting southern and eastern Africa, Iceland, Europe, Laos, Fiji and next up is Antarctica! She likes to dance, stay active, and for the last 10 years Amber has been digging up dinosaur bones with the Victorian based Dinosaur Dreaming program (dinosaurdreaming.net).
