Agricultural scientist -Horticulture and regulatory science Anahita is an Acting Assistant Director at Pesticides team at the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), evaluating risks associated with Agricultural chemicals by assessing the requirements of chemistry, public health, work health and safety, efficacy, crop safety, trade risk and environmental safety as per Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Acts and legislation.
Anahita leads the Emerging Technology Project, collaborating with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) supporting innovation and development in use of pesticide applications by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAVs/drones) while protecting the health and safety of people, animals and the environment.
Anahita completed a PhD on “Managing vigour, light, crop load and tree architecture in mango to maximise productivity and quality” at the University of Queensland in collaboration with Small Tree High Productivity Project, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and Hort Innovation. Her PhD built on her Master’s research studying tree physiology (apples) and Bachelor’s in plant protection (pistachios). Anahita has been working in Agriculture/Horticulture since 2002, in crop production, plant protection, vegetative growth, light relations, flowering, fruit set, irregular bearing, tree architecture, rootstocks, rootstock-scion interaction, plant modelling and regulatory science. She collaborates with people from different research disciplines from all over the world, industry, estate and federal government and growers.
Anahita is passionate about sharing her work and experiences as presentations, training and public speaking. She presented at numerous international symposiums, multiple farmer/industry conferences. She was nominated as one of the UQ finalists at the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) in 2017.
She loves swimming, dancing, painting, hiking, volunteering, playing the flute, motorbikes and her cat.
Anahita is determined to play her role in creating a better world for plants, animals and humans where each and everyone can live to their true potential, a kind, safe and happy world.
