Annie is a medical doctor and research scientist. She completed a translational PhD in obstetric medicine. Annie investigated novel therapies for preeclampsia – a disease of pregnancy carrying the highest maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, due largely to limited therapeutic options. Her PhD began in the lab as discovery science experiments before culminating in a large randomised controlled trial. Annie has since relocated to Darwin, NT where she will work as a junior doctor before continuing her career by training in, and researching, obstetric medicine. More recently, Annie is working on projects to better understand the health challenges facing Australia’s Indigenous women. Annie is passionate about improving health outcomes for pregnant women and their babies and hopes to dedicate her career to research in women’s health. Through the Homeward Bound program Annie aims to grow her leadership and public communication capabilities. With the assistance of this program Annie hopes to develop her skills, knowledge and confidence as an effective leader with the aim of becoming involved in policy and decision making around women’s health. As a scuba Dive-master, Annie is passionate about environmental awareness and has recently joined the Darwin triathlon community. Annie is looking forward to learning from all the inspirational women who make up the HB6 cohort!
