Carla Conejo González is the Head of Science Programs at the Catalunya La Pedrera Foundation, an institution based in Barcelona (Spain) with a worldwide impact in promoting scientific vocations among the youth. The hands-on educational programs she leads alongside the Science Academy team cover a broad range of subjects across STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Medicine).
Carla graduated in Human Biology and has done research in neurobiology at the Center for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, and the University of Bologna (Italy). She has also worked as scientific advisor and documentalist for the Catalan TV (TV3) programs ‘Quèquicom’ and ‘Xplorers’. Advocating for the youth, as the change makers of the future, has been one of her priorities over the last decade through multiple initiatives. Carla has been volunteer and Director of International Relations in MAGMA – Association for Promoting Youth Research (Spain), Vice-President of the science diplomacy association Scientists Dating Forum (Spain), and representative at the International Science and Engineering Fair (USA). She combines her passion for science education and outreach with travelling to get to know better the planet that we have been lucky to inhabit.
At the moment, Carla is coleading Hypatia I, a female crew of nine scientists that will participate in an analog mission at the Mars Desert Research Station in Utah (USA) in 2023; and she is also CEO of Polaris, a start-up that is developing the first sustainable scientific travel app that aims to transform our current model of tourism. Carla’s next stop: Antarctica!
