Carole became hooked on ocean conservation at a young age and started her career in the field of marine sciences, working on whale conservation projects. Aware of the importance of linking research to policy to achieve better ocean conservation, Carole undertook a PhD in international environmental law and has been working for over 10 years with policy-makers to support science-based decision making for the conservation of biodiversity in the high seas, including providing expertise to the global negotiations for a high seas treaty under the United Nations. Carole currently works as Deputy Secretary at the OSPAR Commission, an intergovernmental organisation with the mandate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic.
