Catherine Nielsen
National Programs Mentor at Questacon
Living in Australian Capital Territory, Australia
Catherine believes every interaction with another person is an opportunity to inspire, teach and to learn. These interactions empower individuals and groups to create their own culture of positive learning and have the potential to continue to inspire after the interaction concludes.
Catherine knew from a young age she wanted to be a scientist and on a trip around Australia, at the age of thirteen, she decided that she wanted to be a palaeontologist and study extinctions. This led Catherine to complete a Degree in Zoology and Archaeology, then Honours in Palaeontology while also taking on a variety of internships around the country. One of these internships led to a job as a communicator at Naracoorte Fossil Caves where Catherine found her true passion – talking. More specifically talking about Science. Since this time Catherine has joined the Questacon Science Circus, completed a Masters of Science Communication, worked with Edinburgh Science in Scotland and is now working as a science communicator with Questacon, the National Science and Technology Centre.
When not working you will find Catherine swimming, hiking or trying to keep her house plants alive.
