CÉLINE HANZEN

Post doctoral research, University of KwaZulu-Natal
Belgian, living in South Africa
Céline is curious, passionate, fierce, and she has big dreams and hopes. She comes from Belgium, but she now calls South Africa home. She is first and foremost a fish ecologist but also a hiker, musician, and crafter. Her research focuses on African freshwater eels, which are long-distance migratory fish. Céline is passionate about these secretive creatures, which are indicator species: how well they fare depends on how well we manage our water resources. Her work got her particularly interested in ecological connectivity, and she’s profoundly committed to connecting people, rivers, and fish.
