Charlotte Russell-Maynard
(She/Her)
Senior Dysphagia Clinician/Speech Pathology Team Leader
Charlotte is a Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist, specialising in helping individuals with communication disabilities to become more independent and overcome communication barriers through the use of specialised devices, aids and equipment. Charlotte currently holds dual appointments at Scope Australia, one of the leading disability service providers in Australia, as both Scope’s Senior Dysphagia (swallowing disorders) Clinician and the Speech Pathology Team Leader for the Focussed Therapy service. Charlotte is passionate about supporting people with disabilities to achieve their goals in life and enabling each person to live as empowered and equal citizens.
Charlotte joined the Victorian State Emergency Service in 2020 to protect her community and help those most in need. She and her unit are called upon to assist vulnerable people affected by floods and storms and to support police and fire departments. Charlotte was recently appointed to her unit’s management team as the Section Leader for Recruitment and Retention.
Charlotte has a deep love for animals and their welfare, which lead her to volunteer with Forever Friends Animal Rescue as a cat coordinator. Her role is to match homeless cats and kittens with suitable foster homes until they can be adopted. She also helps to support foster carers in looking after their foster cats’ health and welfare. She personally fosters a growing number of cats and kittens and has happily seen over 30 kittens and one rabbit to their new homes. She hopes to help many more animals in the future.
In her spare time, Charlotte enjoys the great outdoors, in particular cross-country skiing, rock climbing and caving. She is a volunteer committee member for the La Trobe University Mountaineering Club, which encourages young people to become more active through outdoor sports.
