Elyse McMillen
(She/Her)
Hydrogen Systems Engineer
Elyse is currently working to accelerate the mining industry’s transition to clean energy as a Systems Engineer at First Mode, a global carbon reduction company working to eliminate the use of diesel in heavy industry. Previously, Elyse began her professional career at Rolls-Royce, using her chemical engineering background to evaluate the potential of novel materials and sustainable alternative fuels, additives, and lubricants to decrease the aviation industry’s carbon footprint.
In between these roles, Elyse packed a backpack and hiked ~1200 miles along the West Coast of the United States on the Pacific Crest Trail, which emphasized the importance of delicate environmental regions and exposed her to the direct impacts of the changing climate.
Elyse has served on the executive board for both the SWE-Central Indiana section and Rolls-Royce Women North America and has spoken at the 2018 National Society of Women Engineers conference on the topic of career differentiators for women in STEMM. Recognized as a driver of diversity and inclusion initiatives for women in STEMM and for her technical contributions, Elyse was awarded the WE Local New ELiTE (Emerging Leader in Technology & Engineering) award in 2021.
Outside of engineering, Elyse is an avid outdoorswoman who will jump at any opportunity to be outside, including backpacking, cycling, skiing, rock/ice climbing, and more!
