Erin Hughes
Senior Surface Water Engineer at Hydrology and Risk Consulting (HARC)
Living in Victoria, Australia
With water being fundamental to life, no wonder it is being heralded as the next global crisis. Growing up in the Torres Straits, Erin was surrounded by water and saw first-hand the impact engineering could have on local communities when trying to manage water challenges. As a result, flood hydrology and surface water engineering became the focus of Erin’s career. Erin is a chartered engineer and has been the lead flood hydrologist or project manager responsible for the delivery of a large array of design flood hydrology, dam safety risk assessments and flood risk assessments for a range of government and industry clients. She has worked for clients internationally and in all states of Australia with a strong focus in Queensland. She is also passionate about STEM education and improving the quality of life in remote First Nations communities. As a result, she donates her professional skills to not-for-profit organisations such as WaterAid and Engineers Without Borders.
