Gabriela is an oceanographer passionate about conservation, coastal management, governance and policy. With a diverse background, she started working with marine ecology during her academic exchange at the University of Western Australia. Once back to Brazil, she finished her bachelor studies and, looking for a way to apply her science, started her masters in coastal management. During that period, her research focused on the management of the coastal archaeological heritage. Now, for her PhD, Gabi is part of the Brazilian team that works on MISSION ATLANTIC, an EU-funded project that will map and assess the present and future status of Atlantic marine ecosystems under the influence of climate change and exploitation.
Other research interests include marine protected areas, ecosystem services, beach management, the effects of human activities on coastal and marine habitats and the interaction between environmental and social sciences.
Outside the academy, Gabi is an enthusiast for diving, hiking, fishing, tennis, soccer and culture.
