Gabriela Joelsas Timerman is a Brazilian Naval & Ocean Engineer with a passion for promoting sustainable development and the transition to a symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment. She is an expert in energy transition, circular & integrated solutions for the utilities sector, and sustainable aquaculture, and is known for her ability to bring together academia, government, industry, and the third sector to promote cooperation in these areas.
As a Board Member of EcoSea, Gabriela is actively involved in promoting sustainable aquaculture in high-energy sites, while her advisory company Iskra focuses on Integrated Energy Ventures and fast forwarding the energy transition. She is also an LNG and Hydrodynamics specialist and has played a key role in the development and implementation of most of Brazil’s LNG import infrastructure, which provides the country with energy system reliability and flexibility.
Gabriela’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond her professional activities. She is a co-founder of Instituto Sagres, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable interaction between humans, the sea, and the environment, and an investor in MOD Audio, an open-source-based music tech company in Germany. She is also a fund-raiser for the United for a Living Amazon initiative, which supports the protection of the Amazon rainforest.
In addition to her professional and philanthropic activities, Gabriela is a nature lover, climate and equality activist, and enthusiast of all sciences, mathematics, and arts. She is passionate about the oceans, agroforestry, and open-source-based knowledge and wants to dedicate her energy and career to support the transition for society to exit the Anthropocene and enter the Symbiocene.
