As a child Gudrun got inspired by the ocean explorations of Jacques Cousteau and wanted to become a whale biologist. She became a fish physiologist instead, studying the effects of environmental changes on marine and freshwater fish. Her research brought her all over the world as she finds it fascinating how fish can survive under the most extreme circumstances. Yet humankind managed to threaten even the sturdiest species such as the majestic shark. Her new goals are to protect rivers and oceans, be an inspiration and mentor for future women in STEMM, and battle science denial.
