Gurutzeta started her career as Telecom Engineer working for the industry. A year-long trip around the world motivated her to contribute to positive change. Since then, she specialises in Ecological Modelling and Statistics. She develops, applies and tests novel quantitative methods to obtain better information about the status of biodiversity, and through this, support conservation and management decisions. Her research provides ecologists and managers with tools and competence to collect and analyse relevant data rigorously and efficiently. She works at the University of Melbourne, where she teaches and supervises, aspiring to become a role model for female and international students.
