Gurutzeta Guillera Arroita

Research Scientist, Pyrenean Institute of Ecology (Spanish National Research Council
Spanish/Australian living in Spain
Gurutzeta started her career as telecom engineer working for the mobile phone industry. Her love for nature and a year-long trip around the world motivated her to refocus her professional path to contribute to the protection of biodiversity. Since then, she specialises in ecological modelling and statistics. She develops, tests and applies modern quantitative methods to obtain better information about the status of species, and their future projections, and through this, support nature conservation and management decisions. Her research provides ecologists and managers with tools and competence to collect and analyse relevant data rigorously and efficiently. Gurutzeta obtained her PhD in ecological statistics at the University of Kent (UK), and then was Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne in Australia, where she worked for 9 years. In 2022 she moved to Spain and joined the Pyrenean Institute of Ecology as Research Scientist.
