Hafdis Hanna studied arctic and alpine plant ecology in Iceland, Denmark and Switzerland. After her PhD, she took on a leadership role as the director of the UN University Land Restoration Training Programme, where she and her team work with and train specialists from developing countries. She travels regularly to Africa and Central Asia for work and has organised and participated in ecological field expeditions in diverse ecosystems, from Svalbard in the Arctic to the Galapagos Islands at the Equator. She is married with two children, studies jazz singing and loves new adventures, being outdoors and taking photographs.
