Izzy Gavel
Environmental and Cultural Heritage Officer at GBA Engineers
Living in Queensland, Australia
Izzy is an Environmental/Cultural Heritage Officer working for GBA Engineers, a civil engineering firm in Barcaldine, Queensland. She has a passion for sustainability and environmental conservation which stems from an interest in climate change, first sparked during primary school. Growing up she spent a lot of time on her family farm in western New South Wales where she learnt to appreciate the natural environment and understand the importance of conserving it for future generations.
Since graduating from university, her focus has shifted toward environmental consulting, ensuring that environmental sustainability is made a priority when it comes to progress. In 2020, she decided to pack up her life and move to rural Queensland. She enjoys the opportunities that working in the central-west has offered her, being able to travel and work very remotely undertaking flora, fauna and cultural heritage surveys and liaising with a variety of people from different backgrounds.
In her spare time, Izzy enjoys running and spending time outdoors with her friends. She is excited to be a part of Homeward Bound for the opportunity to network with likeminded women and to use the skills that she learn to help make environmental sustainability a higher priority within rural communities.
