Katharina Fabricius is a coral reef ecologist, and Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS). Before starting at AIMS over three decades ago, she grew up, studied and worked in Munich, Germany.
Katharina has published extensively on issues around the health of the Great Barrier Reef and other Pacific coral reef regions, especially on the impacts by ocean acidification, poor water quality and climate change. Presently her team’s research focuses on the ecological processes critical for reef recovery after acute and chronic disturbances. She has supervised 35 postgraduate students to date, and serves as advisor to various government and NGO bodies. She lives with her partner in a small island community, and in her free time, she is typically found somewhere outdoors.
