Katie Serjeantson
Manager - Projects Energy Development at Rio Tinto
Australian living in Queensland, Australia
As an engineer, educator and change agent Katie Serjeantson teaches students that through STEM we can make the impossible – possible. Having led large operational, technical and project teams with budgets to match, Katie’s true passion is in delivering transformational change through the creation of teams that “win together.”
Katie’s career in the resource industry has seen her work in multiple commodities across Australia. In her current role as the Manager – Projects in Rio Tinto’s Energy Development team for the Pacific Region she is responsible for scoping and delivering the large renewable solutions required to decarbonise the value chain for both present and future operations. Her goal – a 15% reduction in scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2025, and 30% by 2030, positively impacting communities across Australia and New Zealand.
Her contributions to the resource sector as a Champion for Women in STEMM and Leadership diversity have been recognised nationally. Outside of work she volunteers at schools and tertiary institutions sharing the joy and impact of science by demonstrating how learned theory is practically applied in the field. As an advocate for women in industry she is an active mentor, working to establish safe, supportive networks where all can thrive.
Katie believes that Homeward Bound will provide a strong platform through which she may motivate mining and industry towards a renewable future that benefits human progress.
