Kristin majored in engineering with an eye on applying technical knowledge to environmental problems. She joined the NOAA Corps in 2012, first serving as a Junior Officer aboard NOAA Ship Fairweather, a hydrographic survey vessel. She then managed a dive centre for NOAA in Hawaii, and now serves as Vessel Operations Coordinator at the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. She is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, DAN Instructor, NOAA Rescue Swimmer, and NOAA Divemaster & Field Trainer. A former competitive swimmer and water polo player, she loves to be in or on the water as much as possible.
