Laura is an environmentalist from São Paulo, Brazil, and currently lives in London, UK. After almost a decade working for non-for-profits, Laura started working for international organizations, governments, and think tanks, both independently and through her own environmental consultancy, Avenca.
Laura is the author of over 15 publications on climate finance, nature, deforestation, the urban-nature nexus, and the social and gender dimensions of the climate crisis. She is also a lead author of the forthcoming flagship World Cities Report, published biannually by UNHabitat.
She currently supports the Global Program on Nature-based Solutions of the World Bank with nature-based solutions projects in several countries, including Brazil, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, Chad, and Ivory Coast. Through her work with the World Bank, Laura also develops knowledge products and provides guidance to teams on gender and social inclusion through nature-based projects.
Currently, she is also leading efforts internally to create further guidance on the nexus between the climate crisis, nature, and institutional fragility and conflict. Laura attended PUC-São Paulo and SciencesPo Paris for her undergraduate degree and holds an MSc from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences, where she attended as a Chevening Scholar. She also has earned a Certificate in Sustainable Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, and a Certificate in ESG Investing from the CFA Institute UK.
On her free time, Laura enjoys cultivating her reputation as a big bookworm, planning her next scubadiving holiday, and practicing ashtanga yoga.
