Lauren de Waal
(She/Her)
Space Surveillance Telescope Lead
Lauren is an engineer, scientist and project manager. Originally specialising in renewable energy systems and natural resource management, her focus was on automated sensing systems for bushfire prediction and early warning.
Lauren currently works within the space sector, on earth observation satellite constellations and ground-based telescope systems. Her roles require her to navigate governmental processes to design, plan and procure critical new space capabilities. Lauren is passionate about the contributions these capabilities make – able to do everything from detecting asteroids through to assisting with planning for humanitarian aid and disaster relief efforts.
Outside of work Lauren is a nature-lover and avid equestrian, with an interest in large animal rehabilitation. When not travelling, you’ll find her at home with her many rescue animals.
Through Homeward Bound, Lauren is excited to meet like-minded people who apply their passion and skills to make an impact on the current crises facing our globe.
