Dr. Letizia Sammut is a Senior Scientific Software Engineer at the Australian Synchrotron with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). She completed a PhD and a Postdoctoral research fellowship in Astrophysics involving the study and analysis of gravitational waves. She was involved in the groundbreaking discoveries and detections of gravitational waves by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) and was part of the team that made the first detection of gravitational waves, and the first direct observations of colliding black holes and neutron star. As a senior scientific software engineer, Letizia combines her passion for science with her experience in computer programming and software development to facilitate leading edge science for the benefit of the broader community. She is passionate about developing leadership potential and promoting the progression of women in STEMM. Letizia is honoured and delighted to be a part of the amazing and unique journey that is Homeward Bound.
