A/Prof Margaret Barbour grew up in the central North island of New Zealand, completing Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Waikato. She moved to Australia in 1996 to complete a PhD in Plant Science at the Australian National University. After holding a research position with Landcare Research in Christchurch, New Zealand, she joined the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2010. As an experimental plant physiologist, Margaret has developed novel stable isotope techniques and mechanistic models to study the dynamics of exchange of carbon and water between plants and the atmosphere.
