María José (Majo) Gutiérrez Murray is a climate change and sustainability specialist. She is a Licenciate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica, and holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management from the University of Oxford.
She is Founder and Director of the consulting company RE Responsabilidad y Estrategia in Costa Rica, and Founding Member of the Center for Urban Sustainability, also based in Costa Rica. She is currently the Senior Director of International Programs for Tradewater, where she directs the search, collection and destruction of potent greenhouse gases and ozone depleting substances in the form of older refrigerant gases and halons around the world.
In the past, she has served as a Technical expert for the Secretariat of the Low Emission Development Strategies Global Platform (LEDS GP) Latin American and Caribbean Regional Platform (LEDS LAC), where she took on various coordinating and advisory roles, including coordination of a regional community of practice on Monitoring and Evaluation of Climate Policies, as well as one on the Synergies between Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. She has participated in and developed projects in the topics of urban sustainability, climate change adaptation, low emission and resilient development strategies, carbon footprint management, corporate sustainability, NAMAs, among others.
María José is a lover of the ocean and nature, who embraces challenges and ambition and seeks to make a significant positive impact. Passionate and driven, she is determined to drive positive change.
