MATILDA MACKAY-SIM

Psychiatry registrar, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital
Queensland, Australia – dual citizen Australian and American
Matilda grew up surrounded by scientists, but only decided to become a doctor while engaged in a Rotary Youth Exchange in Brazil. She completed her medical degree at the University of Tasmania and completed her internship at the Townsville Hospital. Matilda is halfway through her specialty training in psychiatry. She has an interest in global and public health, and particularly the promotion of mental health within marginalised groups such as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, recent migrants and refugees, and the LGBTIQ population. In 2019 she will return to far north Queensland, providing mental health services for remote communities in Cape York and the Torres Strait. Matilda plans to do advanced training in consultation-liaison psychiatry.
