Namikoye Samita is a Kenyan born Scientist specializing in environmentally friendly pest management approaches in Agricultural food systems. She is well experienced in designing and implementation of research Projects. She is a Departmental Coordinator of post graduate board of studies where she mentors and trains many MSc and PhD students. With a background in leadership, Samita is one of the Governing Council of the Association of Kenyan Entomologists (AKE) as well as the African Association of insect scientists (AAIS). She is also an International Plant Protection Convention training expert tasked with developing curricular for plant Health officers. She is a volunteer as a Koica Country Trustee at The Bridge international.
As a woman scientist, She has defied all odds and risen from the position of being a primary School teacher, to a high School teacher and finally to being a Don at the University. She inspires and reaches out to many other women and youth irrespective of their challenges. Samita is so passionate about empowering women and the youth in STEMM related subjects. The gap between research resources and acquisition among the women and Youth has to be narrowed. She yearns for a platform for networking, collaboration and training where every woman and youth leader would be emboldened and stand out to be counted.
