Dr Nicola Gaston is Associate Professor in Physics at the University of Auckland, and Deputy Director of the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence. She was elected the President of the New Zealand Association of Scientists in 2014 and 2015. She is the author of Why Science is Sexist, a book published in 2015 by Bridget Williams Books in which she assessed the current scientific literature on unconscious bias, and the ways in which this explains the gender imbalances evident in the sciences.
