Australian Tonia Gray is a Senior Researcher at Western Sydney University’s Centre for Educational Research. With a Masters in Community Health and a Doctorate in Outdoor Education. Connecting people to nature has been her passion for over 35 years. Recently, Tonia co-edited Palgrave Macmillan’s Gender and Education ‘Book of the Year’ entitled the International Handbook of Women in Outdoor Learning (2018). She has been the recipient of many prestigious accolades, and in 2014 received the National Award for University Teaching Excellence. In 2017 her lifelong ambition to integrate outdoor learning into the Australian curriculum was realised. Tonia’s international reputation as a leading voice in a patriarchal field has provided a role model for women. Her strength-based and transformative leadership style underpins her mantra “Be the change you wish to see in the world”.
