Dr. Virginia Kiefer Corrigan is a veterinarian and educator, currently serving as a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the proposed BS in Veterinary Technology program at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. With over a decade of experience in veterinary medicine and veterinary education, Dr. Corrigan has a passion for promoting excellence, collaboration, and innovation in veterinary education and practice. Dr. Corrigan holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Virginia Tech, specializing in Human-Animal Bond Studies. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in Canine/Feline Practice, a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Professional (CCRP), and a Certified Animal Hospice and Palliative Care Veterinarian (CHPV). Dr. Corrigan recently became the first veterinarian to obtain a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) from the University of Pennsylvania, led by Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman, the founder of Positive Psychology. Throughout her career, Dr. Corrigan has been committed to advancing the wellbeing of both animals and humans. Her expertise encompasses companion animal primary care, rehabilitation and multimodal pain management, hospice and palliative care, and feline medicine. She has been actively involved in research and service activities that explore the human-animal bond, public health, and evidence-based approaches to wellbeing, communication, leadership, and interprofessional team-based education and practice. At the University of Tennessee, Dr. Corrigan is spearheading the development of a proposed bachelor’s of science in veterinary technology (BSVT) program, slated to launch in Fall 2025.
