We continue to balance our days with landings, sessions, and collaborative working groups. We are immersed in the scenery, the conversations, and the personal work. All the while, our ship’s captain and his officers have been playing chess with the ice fields — staying up all night, thinking a few steps ahead to keep us safe. We learned that all officers are encouraged to challenge the decisions of the captain, to ensure that they have as many perspectives as possible before making their consequential moves.

Leadership is taking place at all levels of this expedition. We as Homeward Bound participants can only engage in our work because of the incredibly effective leadership of our captain and his team.
