What a privilege to be visiting an Adélie penguin colony today. Experiencing their curious antics from the Zodiac was not only exciting as we watched them drop awkwardly into the water, but also less disruptive for their homes on the ice. Adelie penguins are sadly the clear losers in climate change. Numbers near Palmer Station on the West Antarctic peninsula have declined by 80% since the 1970s. Factors include reduced sea ice and rain replacing snow in some areas which means the chicks’ downy coats get wet. Who are the climate change losers in your environment?
