Melissa is a Latina marine biologist and wildlife educator with a BA in Marine Ecology and Conservation degree and MSc in Marine Biology. Her main research focus is Chondrichthyan (sharks, stingrays, skates, and chimaeras) habitat use and media portrayal. She is co-host on Shark Week 2018, a TEDx speaker, founder of The Fins United Initiative (TFUI; www.finsuntied.co.nz), host of the Spanish-speaking ConCiencia Azul podcast (on Spotify and Apple podcasts; concienciaazulpodcast.weebly.com), and a freelance environmental contributor. A strong science literacy advocate, she is currently working on an educational sci-fi series with the Jennifer De Chiara Literary Agency.
